Case Study 12

H. is 39 , slim built, fit an healthy with no medical history of any note. She has a stressful job at a large local company but enjoys it. No children but happily married. Last July, she was hit hard from behind while stationary in traffic. She was taken to QMC and dismissed as having nothing broken. Several months later she had pains and aches all over the place-pills did nothing. She came in Sept 2006 and I estimated 6 sessions to finish. It has taken 14!!!

There is nothing unusual about the problem -trapezius contracture -heavy-C6and 7 stiff, C1 immobile, erector spinae contractured badly-an every day tale.
The unusual part is that the tissue has proved amenable to everything I have done-there was never a week when there was no statement from her that things were better but FORTUNATELY she had the necessary perseverance to keep coming for 14 sessions. At last the fragment of the traps spasm came out and the last few degrees of hip joint range loss came out but whilst the body seemed always to respond well, the 14 sessions tells you that it has been 4 months and lots of sessions to clear which I thought would take only about 6. The lesson-her neck aches and headaches declined but continued to the last remnant of the traps spasm-the area of traps still hard was no bigger than a coin!!!!!

This is the lesson-for some you just have to keep going and believe that one day you will get there even despite the slow speed-the key here is that there is always progress even though it was small each time.
