Fmm patient experiences Jan 2008 by Penny Wilson Patient SM.Age 35. History of back and neck pain since having children 11 yrs ago. Car accident 4 yrs ago might also have contributed. Symptoms on presentation were headaches, vision impaired in right eye, feeling of heaviness and pain in right hand.Findings: C7, C1, C2, C3 all seized to approximately 70%. L5 seized 70%. Soft tissue on left lumbar feelling very hard. R. Trapezius muscles hard. After 1st treatment only slight improvement. Pain went away for one day and then came back. Pain in right hand had improved. During the second treatment I just worked on C1, C2 and C3 as too sore for me to work on C7. I could feel that the neck was improving but the patient couldn’t yet feel any benefits! When coming for session 3 the patient reported immediate and sustained improvement. Feeling of being energized after treatment. R.hand symptoms had almost gone. Vision had improved and range of neck movement was improving all the time. I continued to work on the neck to try and increase movement to the right in C1, C2 and C7. Also to continue to soften R.trap.  By session 6 the patient reported no pain for the first time in 11yrs! The lower back pain was easily treated by lumbar rotations and work on the left erector spinea. The patient is continuing to come to maintenance sessions every 4 wks and is looking for a yoga class to attend!  Patient FGAge 13.Pain in both ankles going into feet.Findings: Very short hamstrings and calf muscles in seated forward bend.Treatment: Worked gently with thumbs into calf muscles and hamstrings and then stretched using PNF technique. Lumbar rotation Only one treatment necessary and pain has gone.  Patient NAge 13. SwimmerPresented with right shoulder and neck pain.Findings: Right trapezius is very contracted. Worked hard into this and able to soften it completely in one session. All of the vertebrae were free and moving well. N was completely pain free after just one session and continues to train for 20 hrs a week. She is coming for maintenance sessions every 6 wks whilst she continues to train at this level. Patient RHAge 25Tennis coachPresented with pain in right wrist and tingling in little finger.Findings: C7/C6 70% seized. C1/C2 50% seized . Hardened tissue around area of pain. My immediate thought was that this was referred pain from a neck problem. Although on talking to the patient there had been a significant volleyball accident that seemed to have caused the problem.  I worked on the neck to get all the joints moving properly. After the first session there was no improvement in the patients condition even though the neck joints were moving much better. I then proceeded to explore the area where pain was being felt and massaged the area of hard tissue. After this session the pain was much reduced .  I continued to work on the wrist itself for the next session and the pain went away completely. The patients neck still has a tendency to seize and cause headaches but it seems that it is not related to the wrist pain as I wrongly suspected. RH comes for maintenance sessions when required.
